Lokrum Island [wikipedia | likecroatia | tripadvisor| ] is a quick, roughly $7 (in 2007, at least) ferry ride from Dubrovnik. Like Dubrovnik itself [see my Dubrovnik post] itself, it is UNESCO-protected, and it is simply a little paradise. I spent an entire day (eight hours or more) there, and loved every minute of it. It has a miniature dead sea (salty, easy to float in), an ancient botanical garden of exotic plants, and peacocks. Lots of peacocks. (Also lots of nude elderly male German tourists—who were quite impressive, actually! They were totally naked except for shoes yet there they were, scaling mini-cliffs with no fear.)
